On behalf of its members and partners, UN-Water would like to extend to one and all the warmest wishes for a peaceful and happy new year.
In 2009, UN-Water looks forward to continuing its collaborative activities with familiar colleagues and to forging alliances with new partners. By working together we can make 2009 a banner year for water.
Campaign materials for World Water Day 2009
Campaign materials for World Water Day 2009 have now been made available on the World Water Day web site. Materials for the campaign include posters, t-shirt templates, photo galleries and desktop wallpaper for your computer. World Water Day is celebrated on 22 March. It's never too early to start spreading the word.
The World Water Day web site also has added an events page. If you're planning a World Water Day event, visit the web site and let the organizers know.
This year the theme for World Water Day is "Shared Water - Shared Opportunities". Special focus will be placed on transboundary waters.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has created an on-line searchable database containing multi-language glossary information on health and the environment. The Health and Environment Lexicon (THE Lexicon) covers many areas related to freshwater, including small community water supplies, risk assessment and sanitation. Find out more about THE Lexicon
Global Groundwater Maps
An important resource for those interested in freshwater resources is the global groundwater map recently published by the Worldwide Hydrological Mapping and Assessment Programme (WHYMAP). Published in October 2008, the global groundwater map is a detailed map of transboundary aquifers that shows the delineations of aquifers shared by at least two countries. Visit the WHYMAP web site to view or download the global groundwater map
We'd also like to remind you that the new Google Custom Search feature allows you to target your searches to the UN-Water site and the web sites of our members and partners.
The new site also has a page for each one of UN-Water's Task Forces. These pages can be found in the Activities section.
